What’s New at NUFFI this July
Let’s Gather & Grow 2025!
Join us on September 9th at Pamela’s on the Hudson for libations and hors d’oeuvres as we celebrate NUFFI’s work and the truly amazing contributions that Naomi Hersson-Ringskog has made to Newburgh. For just two short hours – from 6PM to 8PM – enjoy great people, delectable food, live music, and news about NUFFI and Naomi. Money raised from Gather & Grow 2025 will be used to fund NUFFI’s Healthy Food program, where we grow healthy produce at the Downing Park Urban Farm for free distribution to people in need throughout Newburgh. Thanks to our early sponsors: Michael Green and the Fullerton, the Kaplan Family Foundations, Marlene & Gerald Jacobowitz, and anonymous donors for stepping up early and supporting the 3Ns this fall – NUFFI, NAOMI, and our NEIGHBORS! If you want to participate in one of the four workgroups:

Natural, chemical-free methods for preventing and controlling pests using companion planting, beneficial insects, and soil health strategies to maintain a balanced ecosystem.
Container Garden Program

Clean Soil = Safe Food
Test your soil before planting anything.
Free soil lead (Pb) test kits are available at no cost for City of Newburgh residents.
Before planting in Newburgh, test your soil—urban soil may contain harmful toxins like lead from past industrial use. These contaminants can transfer into your food and pose serious health risks, especially for children and pregnant women, as there is no safe level of lead exposure.
August might feel like the tail end of summer, but there’s still plenty you can plant in your Newburgh garden! Whether you’re working with a few containers or a full backyard bed, now’s the time to sow seeds for quick-growing crops and cool-weather favorites.
