What's Wild at the Farm: Biodiversity Study Results

Downing Park Urban Farm partnered with Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies and Scenic Hudson to document wildlife on the farm. Wildlife cameras captured 9 species including Red Fox, Raccoon, Skunk, and Opossum, while bird surveys identified 6 species. Community scientists logged 113 species through iNaturalist. Best of all? No mosquitos or ticks were found! View wildlife photos →

Newburgh Food Project Update

The Newburgh Food Project is entering its action phase, moving from planning to implementation with four focused working groups to strengthen Newburgh’s food system. These groups are:

  • Emergency Food Access: Supporting pantries and the emergency food network

  • Transportation: Tackling barriers to food access

  • Growing & Preparing Food: Helping residents gain skills and resources to grow and prepare food

  • Compost: Diverting food waste and expanding food waste solutions

The Compost and Emergency Food Access groups are already active and welcoming new members. We’re also seeking participants to help launch the Transportation and Growing & Preparing Food groups. Each group will unite residents, partners, and organizations to address challenges and develop practical, community-driven projects.

If you have lived experience, professional expertise, or a strong interest in these areas, please consider joining.

For more info or to get involved, contact Ilyana Campos at ilyanac@nuffi.org.

Thank you for staying up-to-date.

We look forward to seeing you at the Urban Farming Fair April 25! In the meantime, stay engaged by supporting our work. Every donation brings us closer to our goal of Nourishing Newburgh.
