Why It Matters
Lead and heavy metals can remain in soil for generations.
Contaminants are easily transmitted from soil into the leaves and roots of the food you grow.
There is no safe level of lead exposure.
Any exposure can cause health problems, especially for children and pregnant women.
What You Can Do
Test your soil before planting anything.
Use clean soil in containers or raised beds that are isolated from the ground, instead of planting in contaminated soil.
