SPECTRUM NEWS: “Newburgh Farm & Food Initiative Supplies Fresh Produce to Those in Need”

October 29, 2020

Molly Foley, a farmer at the Downing Park Urban Farm in Newburgh, is making a significant impact by harvesting and delivering fresh produce to local food pantries. Operated by the Newburgh Urban Farm and Food Initiative, the farm has supplied over 6,000 pounds of produce to a dozen pantries, addressing the increased demand amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Foley, alongside local high school students supported by a Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan grant, dedicates hours of service to this initiative. The fresh fruits and vegetables, hand-delivered by Foley, are distributed at Calvary Presbyterian Church every other Wednesday, providing residents with various nutritious options. The initiative, crucial for a community facing food insecurity, exemplifies the positive impact of urban farming and community collaboration.
