Who we are
The Newburgh Farm and Food Initiative is building a just and resilient food system that improves the environment and health of the community in the City of Newburgh.
Our Mission
To cultivate community and residential gardens
To nourish Newburgh with fresh produce
To educate about food's vital role in community building.
Our Story
Rewind to 2015.
The City of Newburgh obtained a HUD Community Development Block Grant and had big dreams of beautifying the old, forgotten greenhouses of Downing Park to draw more folks to the area. The greenhouses, once a symbol of growth and beauty, were lost to time and termites. But, reimagining old spaces isn’t new to Newburgh.
The vision grew from reviving greenhouses to cultivating an Urban Farm in the middle of the City. It was a new concept for many, but the success of community gardens and urban farms in other cities inspired us. They weren't just growing food; they were growing communities.
By 2016, the Newburgh Urban Farm and Food Initiative (NUFFI) was born.
Meet the Team
It takes a lot of people to keep NUFFI going & growing! We are grateful to our Board of Directors, staff, farmer, beekeeper, volunteers, communications team, Ward Ambassadors, donors, broad network of partners and most of all — our community.
