NEWS: “Newburgh celebrates Human Rights Day”

The City of Newburgh's Human Rights Commission (HRC) celebrated its annual Human Rights Day with a focus on acknowledging "Human Rights Heroes" in the community. Among the honored individuals were Kyle Conway, Shantia Jackson, Virginia Kasinki, and Tanika McCullough. Notably, Virginia Kasinki, the executive director of the Newburgh Urban Farm and Food Initiative (NUFFI), was recognized for her role in advancing a just and resilient food system for all residents. NUFFI's achievements include donating 28,000 pounds of produce to feeding sites, maintaining nine community gardens, and providing youth education and employment opportunities. The HRC's "Dignity, Freedom, and Justice for All" celebration marked the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, emphasizing the ongoing commitment to equality and fundamental freedoms in the community.
